Secondary School Life

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Students whose English skills are not yet strong enough to meet the expectations of the regular Canadian classroom must take ESL classes, which are offered by Bayridge Secondary and Loyalist Collegiate. ESL is offered at five different levels.

Graduating from Limestone requires students to have a minimum of one credit of mainstream (non-ESL) English.

Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs

Limestone offers the Advanced Placement program at Loyalist Collegiate, and the senior years IB program at Kingston Collegiate. To be eligible, international students must demonstrate a record of strong academic achievement and a high degree of English fluency. Advanced Placement classes are offered at Bayridge SS, Frontenac SS and Loyalist CVI, We welcome international student inquiries about these two programs. Please contact us for more details.

Student Counsellors

International students at each school are assigned to an academic counsellor. Counsellors are specially qualified teachers who provide students individual attention throughout their entire high school careers regarding course selection, college and university, academic progress, and personal guidance.

Graduation Requirements

Dozens of international students graduate from Limestone each year and continue on to Canadian colleges and universities.  click here for Ontario Secondary School Graduation requirements.   It is important to recognize that it normally takes international students at least two years to develop the English language competency and earn the necessary credits to meet Ontario's graduation requirements. Contact us for more information.

School Sports Teams

Each school has many different after-school sports teams that run during the year.  Our schools play in the very competitive Kingston Area Secondary School Athletics Association (www.kassaa.ca). Some teams have extensive try-outs and some are full participation teams.  There are THREE seasons in KASSAA.
